Mark Phillips QC, Jeremy Goldring and Charlotte Cooke spoke at a seminar for the Northwest Arkansas Debtor Creditor Bar discussing the Anti-Deprivation Rule, UNCITRAL and Off-shore hedge funds.
Event: Insolvency Law Conference
Date: Wednesday 17th October 2012
This conference reviewed a number of important insolvency cases, including those surrounding the out-of-court appointment of administrators and also EU/EEA case law developments. Speakers included:
- The Hon Mr Justice Hildyard, who gave an important keynote speech on the current insolvency landscape
- David Gregory from the Bank of England provided an outlook on current and forecasted economic trends insolvency
- Marcus Laughton from the Pensions Regulator discussed the current statutory framework and outlook for pensions
South Square also had three members speaking at this important conference – Gabriel Moss QC, Henry Phillips and Charlotte Cooke.
The conference was held at ICAEW, One Moorgate Place, London, EC2R 6EA.

Event: Sports Roundup: A Legal Update

An evening seminar hosted by the R&I Lawyers’ network, the Insolvency Lawyers’ Association, members of South Square and Dundas & Wilson. Stephen Atherton QC and Hannah Thornley will be speaking at the R3 Personal Insolvency Conference in Manchester on 24 November 2011. The speakers will be reviewing recent case law, including the following topics: the trustee’s rights and powers; realising the value of the matrimonial home; the status of statutory claims in IVA and bankruptcy; the revised Insolvency Practice Direction.

Glen Davis QC joined Nicole Kar (partner) and Rob Walker (associate) of Linklaters’ Competition/Antitrust team to present a live webinar for in-house counsel on Competition Disqualification Orders, considering the likely impact of recently updated guidance by the Office of Fair Trading on the possibility of applications for disqualification orders under the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986 based on breaches of competition law.

Event: The Future of the European Insolvency Regulation
Date: 28 April 2011
A one day international conference on The Future of the European Insolvency Regulation was held in Amsterdam on 28 April 2011. The European Commission has to evaluate the European Insolvency Regulation and submit proposals for reform before June 2012. This conference was held to provide the Commission with input for this task from academia and practice (both from insolvency practitioners, lenders and the judiciary).
The conference was well attended by high level delegates from all over the EU and EEA but very few from UK. It gave a unique opportunity to influence the European Commission, whose representative attended the conference, with regard to the proposed reform of the EC Insolvency Regulation (1346/2000).

Event: Learning Lessons from the Crisis: Improvement of National and European Insolvency Laws
Date:18 and 19 April 2011
The International Colloquium on “Learning Lessons from the Crisis: Improvement of National and European Insolvency Laws” was held in Paris on 18 and 19 April 2011. David Marks QC joined prominent members of the English legal profession to discuss UK legal and regulatory issues, and later, UK insolvency developments and cases.
The colloquium, which featured specialist teams of judges, lawyers, academics and accountants from the United States, England, France and Germany, attracted about 200 delegates over three half day sessions . The final session took place in the Tribunal de Commerce de Paris and was officially opened by the French Minister of Justice. The topics covered a wide area, ranging from domestic reforms within the various represented jurisdictions to individual case studies.

Event: South Square Insolvency Law Seminars

South Square held two insolvency law seminars and receptions at The Old Hall, Lincoln’s Inn, London. The seminars, which were chaired by Gabriel Moss QC and William Trower QC respectively, were extremely well attended by both solicitors and insolvency practitioners from London and the Home Counties and deemed a great success by all.
