Since commencing practice in 1994, I have been instructed to do a variety of advocacy, drafting and advisory work in general commercial and Companies Court matters, with a particular emphasis on insolvency and banking work.
Major cases in which I have been instructed as a junior include the following:
2001: Acted for the Trustee in bankruptcy in England’s largest known bankruptcy (Fouad Jaffar). Hearings on my own and led by Geraldine Andrews QC of Essex Court Chambers. Instructed by Baker & McKenzie.
1997-2001: Acted for BAII (a subsidiary of BNP) in fraudulent trading proceedings within the BCCI litigation. Led by Anthony Temple QC of 4 Pump Court and Richard Adkins QC of 3/4 South Square. Instructed by Travers Smith Braithwaite.
1998-2001: Acted for share dealers on a successful appeal to the PIA Membership and Disciplinary Tribunal and miscellaneous advice. Led by Gabriel Moss QC of 3/4 South Square, and James Goudie QC of 11 King’s Bench Walk.
1999-2000: Acted for Touche Ross in relation to Jersey proceedings arising out of a fraudulent investment scheme. Led by Robin Knowles QC of 3/4 South Square. Instructed by Linklaters.

1994-1996: Acted for MFL (formerly Johnson Matthey Bankers) and partners in Price Waterhouse in a trial of negligence claims relating to the conduct of a receivership (within the Gomba litigation). Led by Michael Crystal QC and Richard Adkins QC, both of 3/4 South Square. Instructed by Freshfields.

A Co v B Co [2002] 2 HKC 497. Norwich Pharmacal relief and ancillary “gagging orders”.
Re Bank of Credit and Commerce International, [2001] 1 BCLC 263. Decision not to order the trial of a preliminary issue concerning the construction of section 213 of the Insolvency Act 1986, namely whether a person must manage or run the business of the company before he can be knowingly party to the carrying on of the business of the company for a fraudulent purpose.
Re Glen Express Travel Ltd [2000] BPIR 456. The effect of the House of Lords case of Stein v Blake on the rule against double proof insolvency.
Morris & ovrs v Banque Arabe et Internationale d’Investissement SA, Times LR 23 Dec 1999. The impact of French legislation (which made disclosure of documents located in France a criminal offence) upon a discovery order within English proceedings.
Re Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic FC [1998] BPIR 183. No jurisdiction to extend 28-day time-limit for challenging company voluntary arrangement.
Corporacion Nacional del Cobre de Chile v Sogemin Metals Ltd & ors [1997] 1 WLR 1396. Contributory negligence is not available as a defence to allegations of bribery.
Routestone v Minories Finance Ltd and another; Same v Bird and others, [1997] 21 EG 148, [1997] BCC 180. Successful defence at trial of negligence claims made in respect of sales of property during receivership. Permissible scope of expert evidence.
