An ancient basement, hidden off a yard near Holborn, offers a strong, well-priced wine list and old-school French cooking. The Bleeding Heart has a separate wine bar making this an ideal venue for business or pleasure.

With its solid beams and exposed walls, this restaurant exudes charm. The menu is entirely in French and the food plentiful and good. Well worth a visit.

Steak restaurant once famed for its imported Argentinian beef. This has now been replaced with Brazilian beef, but the quality is maintained and the lively atmosphere makes this a favourite with the younger set.

About ten minutes taxi ride from 3-4 South Square but a curry lovers delight. Upmarket restaurant established in 1964 with attentive service in relaxed and pleasant environment. The menu caters for all tastes and the chef is always happy to prepare the dish of your choice if it is not featured. The wine and beer choices are excellent.

Don't be put off by the rough exterior and noisy lower levels of this multi-level steak bar. Make your way to the top floor where you will enjoy good steaks and friendly service. An extensive wine list is also on offer.

The hotel is located in a landmark 1914 building recently transformed into a stunning new hotel with 356 rooms spread over 7 floors. The building itself has served as the setting for films such as Howard's End and The Saint and includes numerous architectural features such as a grand staircase of rare Pavonazzo marble and a classical central courtyard.
